President Trump told the military to stop strikes on Iran on Friday, ending a 13-day period of daily attacks, according to Axios. This is the first time in almost two weeks that Trump did not approve a strike plan. It is unclear if this pause is just for one day or longer.  Each afternoon for the past two weeks, military officials brought Trump a strike plan, and he approved it. On Friday, he did not. He told them to hold off. 

An Omani group arrived in Tehran just before Trump’s decision, trying to make a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Two sources say talks are moving forward, and an agreement could happen soon. The Pentagon also has fewer Patriot interceptors in the area, which adds pressure to slow down. 

” President Trump “At the White House, he said more action is still possible, but making a deal is smarter. His words: “We’re talking to them right now. I think they’re getting more serious. We’re ready to go, but we’re talking.” But: Later that night, at a dinner, he said he didn’t think Iran was ready to make a deal yet, but he is open to listening. 

” Iran ”  has not directly responded to the pause. Kuwait denied claims that its jets joined US strikes in Iran, calling the reports false. 

The military is still preparing plans in case tensions rise again, and strikes could start again quickly if Trump decides. Israeli officials were surprised by the pause and expected more US action. The bottom line: There is a chance for diplomacy now. Whether it continues depends on what happens in Tehran this weekend and if Trump likes the deal offered.
